More than 400 teachers involved in errors during the evaluation of SSC and equivalent examination answer scripts have been identified by the education boards. The process of issuing show-cause notices to them is underway. At the same time, a new policy is being prepared to hold teachers accountable for negligence in answer script evaluation.
Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, coordinator of the Inter-Education Board, said the new policy will also address the issue of awarding inappropriate marks during evaluation. Action will also be taken against teachers found involved in such practices.
Thousands of SSC Results Changed After Review
The results of the re-evaluation of SSC and equivalent examinations were published on September 10. Marks were changed for 56,259 students, while grades changed for 27,836 students. Among them, 4,585 students moved from failing to passing, and 3,079 students newly achieved GPA-5.
The large number of changes has raised questions about SSC answer script evaluation. Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan has also said that teachers who failed to properly evaluate answer scripts would be held accountable and could face punishment.
Speaking as the chief guest at a scholarship and Vice-Chancellor Award ceremony at the International Mother Language Institute in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, the minister said the change in results for thousands of students naturally raises questions. He said those responsible for improper evaluation would be brought under accountability and could face disciplinary action if necessary.
New Policy to Strengthen Accountability
Educationists say that along with mistakes by teachers, pressure to publish results quickly may also contribute to evaluation errors. They also noted that the lack of regular training for teachers on answer script evaluation has made it difficult to completely prevent such mistakes.
Professor Nur-E-Alam Siddiqui of the Institute of Education and Research at the University of Dhaka said teachers can make mistakes because they also face pressure to prepare results within a short period.
The new policy will include negligence and the awarding of inappropriate marks during SSC answer script evaluation. The initiative aims to strengthen accountability among teachers involved in the evaluation process.
