According to Anadolu Agency, the fire broke out on Saturday during a wedding ceremony at a building in Kinshasa’s Lingwala borough. After visiting the scene, Lingwala Mayor Norman Mushinga confirmed that the death toll had reached 22.
The mayor said many items inside the building were also destroyed by the fire. Several injured people were taken to health centers across Kinshasa for medical treatment.
Authorities suspect that an electrical fault may have caused the blaze. However, an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the wedding venue fire. A committee has also been formed to investigate the incident.
