বাংলাBangladesh has received FIFA approval to participate in the ASEAN Cup in place of India. The Bangladesh ASEAN Cup opportunity was confirmed at the Bangladesh Football Federation’s executive committee meeting on Saturday.
After India withdrew from the tournament, discussions began about including Bangladesh as its replacement. Following talks with FIFA, the Bangladesh ASEAN Cup participation has now received the green light.
India was originally placed in Group A of the Premier Division alongside Singapore, Malaysia and hosts Indonesia. Group B includes Vietnam, Pakistan, Thailand and the Philippines.
India withdrew because of a scheduled friendly match against Brazil on October 3. That decision opened the door for Bangladesh ASEAN Cup participation.
The tournament will be held from September 14 to October 4 with 14 teams across two divisions. Premier Division matches will take place in Indonesia, giving Bangladesh ASEAN Cup a major opportunity to showcase the country’s football on the international stage.
