  • Wildfire Smoke from massive wildfires in Canada’s Ontario province has spread across Toronto and parts of the northeastern United States, raising concerns ahead of the FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey.

Environment Canada reported that Toronto’s Air Quality Health Index has reached 10+, indicating a very high health risk. The Wildfire Smoke has also affected New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire.

More than 80,000 fans are expected to attend Sunday’s World Cup final in New Jersey, while thousands more are expected to gather in New York City’s Central Park. Health experts warn that Wildfire Smoke could pose risks to spectators if conditions persist.

According to IQAir, Toronto currently has the world’s most polluted air, surpassing cities including Kinshasa and New Delhi. Experts say extreme heat, combined with wildfire activity, has worsened air quality.

Canada is currently battling 835 active wildfires, with 112 still out of control. Nearly 1.9 million hectares of forest have burned this season, and officials say Wildfire Smoke may continue affecting the region for several more days.
