The local administration has officially declared the conclusion of the rescue operation following the tragic bus sinking at Rajbari’s Daulatdia ferry ghat. Goalanda Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Sathi Das and Fire Service Assistant Director Dewan Sohel Rana confirmed the matter on Sunday (March 29) night around 11:00 PM. According to officials, the rescue operation was formally ended at 7:30 PM as no further missing persons were reported by relatives.
Death Toll and Identification
A total of 26 bodies have been recovered from the river following the accident. UNO Sathi Das, who also serves as the member secretary of the Rajbari District Administration’s investigation committee, stated that the operation was concluded due to the absence of any new missing claims, though it could be resumed if necessary. All 26 bodies were handed over to their respective families without an autopsy. This tragedy marks one of the most significant incidents in the rescue operation history of the Daulatdia region.
Government Assistance and Incident Background
Among the 26 deceased, 18 were residents of Rajbari district. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has provided a one-time government grant of 25,000 BDT to the families of these 18 victims. Additionally, 15,000 BDT will be provided for the treatment of the injured. The accident occurred on March 25 at around 5:15 PM when a Dhaka-bound ‘Souhardya Paribahan’ bus from Kushtia lost control while boarding a ferry at Pontoon No. 3 and plunged into the river.
