In a shocking incident, at least eight police personnel, including the Officer-in-Charge (OC), were injured after a group of people attacked the Palashbari Police Station in Gaibandha. The attack occurred around 10 PM on Wednesday following an altercation over a shop ownership dispute. The injured officers, including OC Sarwar Alam Khan, were rushed to the Palashbari Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Altercation Over Property Leads to Station Violence
According to police sources, the conflict began when a local leader named Palash and his supporters pressured the OC to lock a disputed shop. When the police refused to act without an investigation, the group allegedly became violent. They attacked the OC inside his office and later called more supporters to pelt stones and assault other officers on duty. Assistant Sub-Inspectors Ruhul Amin, Russel, and Sanwar are among those receiving medical care.
Police Response and Conflicting Claims
Additional Superintendent of Police ABM Rashidul Bari described the incident as “unfortunate and unexpected.” While the police have detained one suspect and are preparing legal action against the attackers, the Jubo Jamaat leaders have denied the allegations. They claimed that the police initiated the assault, injuring two of their members. High-ranking officials, including the local Member of Parliament, visited the scene to assess the situation.
