বাংলাA rat was reportedly spotted running inside an ice cream freezer at a Blinkit quick-commerce store in Maharashtra, raising fresh concerns over food safety and hygiene.
According to reports, a group of young customers visited a Blinkit store in the Godrej Hill area of Kalyan, Thane district, on Saturday to buy ice cream. While looking through the freezer, they reportedly saw a rat moving alongside packaged food items.
Following the incident, food sales and delivery from the concerned store were ordered to remain suspended until further instructions. The incident comes as the Maharashtra FDA is conducting a major crackdown on quick-commerce and online food delivery facilities.
The FDA inspected 86 establishments associated with online food storage, sales and delivery and found several food safety and hygiene violations. Fourteen licences were cancelled, including five linked to Blinkit and five linked to Zepto.
Inspections reportedly found issues including poor drainage and waste disposal, inadequate temperature control for frozen products, poor sanitation, pest infestations and improper food storage. Some workers were also found without basic protective equipment.
Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe said that no major brand compromising public health would be treated as being above the law.
