বাংলাThe High Court has ordered that ballot papers, result sheets and other election materials from Dhaka-13 (Mohammadpur) constituency—where BNP candidate and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj won—be taken into the custody of the Election Commission following allegations of election rigging.
The order was issued on Wednesday by a single bench of the High Court led by Justice Md. Zakir Hossain after accepting the petition for hearing.
Earlier, Khilafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque filed a case with the High Court’s election tribunal alleging irregularities in the 13th National Parliament election. The court also ordered the preservation of ballot papers, result sheets and other election materials from Gaibandha-5, Dhaka-5, Pabna-3 and Kushtia-4 constituencies.
It was reported that more than 25 candidates filed petitions with the High Court between February 26 and March 8. After accepting the petitions for hearing, the court directed that ballots and related election materials from the concerned constituencies be preserved.
Under Section 49 of the Representation of the People Order, election petitions regarding irregularities are heard by an election tribunal formed in the High Court. The single bench led by Justice Md. Zakir Hossain is currently hearing these petitions.
