  • University of Dhaka student Md. Nur Nabi Sheikh has expressed frustration after his name was not included in the final gazette of the 49th BCS special examination, despite ranking fifth in Finance and Banking. He says that although his home district is Gopalganj, he was not involved with any political organization and participated in the front line of the July 2024 movement.

    The final gazette was published on Wednesday, September 30. It appointed 611 candidates to the Bangladesh Civil Service General Education Cadre. However, 57 of the 668 candidates who had been provisionally recommended in the final results were not included in the gazette. No reasons for their exclusion were stated in the gazette.

    Nur Nabi Missing From 49th BCS Gazette

    Nur Nabi Sheikh is among the 57 candidates left out. He was a Finance Department student at the University of Dhaka in the 2016-17 academic session and a resident of Bijoy 71 Hall. According to his account, he had been provisionally recommended for a lecturer position in Finance and Banking and ranked fifth.

    In a Facebook post, Nur Nabi said that despite being from Gopalganj, he had never held a position in the Bangladesh Chhatra League at his college, hall or university. He also said his family was not involved in politics and that he had no criminal or civil cases against him.

    Nur Nabi said he supported the 2018 quota reform movement and was among those at the forefront of the 2024 quota movement. He also claimed that he took part in overnight security patrols in Dhaka after the movement.

    Nur Nabi Questions His Omission

    Regarding his omission, Nur Nabi said that despite being from Gopalganj, he was at the forefront of the July movement. He questioned why his name was absent from the 49th BCS Gazette.

    The PSC published the final results of the 49th BCS on November 11, 2025. Against 683 vacant posts in the General Education Cadre, 668 candidates were provisionally recommended. Following verification and other procedures, appointments for 611 candidates were finalized in the gazette.

    The gazette did not specify why Nur Nabi and the other 56 candidates were excluded. The PSC has said that it is the recommending authority, while the Ministry of Public Administration is the appointing authority. The ministry makes the final decision on appointments after completing the verification process.

    Questions have been raised about the exclusion of several candidates from Gopalganj, but no official decision or statement has established that district identity or participation in the July movement was a reason for their exclusion. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}
