  • Former Chief Adviser of the interim government Dr. Muhammad Yunus attended the first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad. The parliamentary session began at 11:00 AM on Thursday (March 12).

After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5, 2024 following a mass uprising by students and citizens, the 12th Parliament was dissolved. Nearly one and a half years later, the 13th parliamentary election was held on February 12 under an interim government.

In that election, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) formed the government with a two-thirds majority.

Meanwhile, the alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami secured 77 seats and is serving as the main opposition in parliament.

Since the activities of the Awami League were banned, the party was unable to participate in the election and currently has no representation in the parliament.

According to the constitution, parliament must convene within 30 days after the declaration of general election results. In line with this provision, President Md. Shahabuddin called the first session of the 13th Parliament on March 12.
