Two of the five students who were burned in a transformer explosion at a madrasa in Fatullah, Narayanganj, have died. The transformer blast victims were receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Jidni, 14, died at around 6am on Wednesday (September 30) while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. Around 82 percent of her body had suffered burns. Earlier, Atia Akter, 11, died on Tuesday afternoon.

Dr Sultan Mahmud Sikder, a resident physician at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed Jidni’s death. He said the transformer blast victims included Jidni, who died while receiving ICU treatment.

Another student, Lamia, remains in the ICU in critical condition. Sumaiya Akter and Acia Akter suffered comparatively less severe burns and are under observation, although doctors have not declared them out of danger.

The five students were injured on Saturday evening while playing on the roof of Mahela Khatun Mohila Madrasa in Hajipara, Fatullah. A transformer on a nearby electrical line exploded and fell onto the roof, injuring the students. The transformer blast victims were later taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for treatment.

Three of the transformer blast victims remain under medical care following the incident.
