A tragic incident occurred in Gafargaon Upazila of Mymensingh, where a school teacher named Tahmina Akter Tonni (30) died after being electrocuted. The incident took place around 3:00 PM on Saturday (June 13) in Panchbag village under Panchbag Union, leaving the family and local community in deep mourning.
The deceased, Tahmina Akter Tonni, was the eldest daughter of Abu Taher of Panchbag village. She worked as a teacher at the local Ujanbhati Kindergarten School and was known among students and colleagues as a dedicated and caring educator.
According to family members, Tonni was performing household chores on Saturday afternoon when the accident occurred. While attempting to switch on an electric fan placed on a table, she came into contact with electricity.
The electric shock left her critically injured. Family members immediately rushed to her aid and arranged for emergency medical treatment.
She was quickly taken to Hossainpur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor examined her and declared her dead.
Her sudden death has cast a shadow of grief over the family. As an unmarried woman and the eldest daughter of the family, her untimely passing has left relatives devastated and heartbroken.
Local school teacher Sarowar Jahan Bahar described the incident as extremely tragic. He said that Tahmina was a polite, talented, and responsible teacher whose death is an irreparable loss not only for her family but also for the entire community.
Upon receiving the information, police from Pagla Police Station visited the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation. Authorities believe the death was caused by an accidental electric shock.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Aminul Islam of Pagla Police Station stated that all necessary legal procedures were completed. As the family had no complaints, the body was handed over to relatives.
The tragic incident has also raised awareness among local residents about the importance of electrical safety in homes. Experts emphasize the need for regular inspection of electrical appliances to prevent similar accidents.
Students, colleagues, and residents of the area have expressed deep sorrow over Tahmina Akter Tonni’s death. Many people have shared condolences on social media and prayed for eternal peace for her soul.
