বাংলাForeign tourist arrivals in India recorded significant growth in August. According to preliminary data from India’s Tourism Ministry, arrivals increased by 10.6% compared with the same month last year, marking the strongest monthly growth in more than two years.
India received slightly more than 625,000 foreign tourists in August 2024, while the figure rose to around 691,000 in August this year. Bangladesh played an important role in the increase in foreign tourist arrivals in India.
More than 74,000 tourists from Bangladesh visited India in August. The number of Bangladeshi visitors increased by around 80% year-on-year, despite recent political tensions between the two countries. Bangladesh has long been considered an important source market for India’s tourism sector.
Tourist arrivals from China also increased significantly. Preliminary figures from India’s Tourism Ministry indicate that Chinese arrivals more than doubled year-on-year in August, exceeding 9,000 visitors.
Arrivals from the United States and the United Kingdom increased by around 3% each. Canada, Germany, Malaysia and Sri Lanka also recorded growth, with increases ranging between 10% and 15%.
The rise in visitors from Bangladesh helped India record double-digit growth in foreign tourist arrivals in India for the first time since February 2024. The latest figures indicate stronger international travel activity in India’s tourism sector.
