  • First ECNEC 6 Projects: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman approves six major development projects in the first ECNEC meeting of the new government. 13 more projects await discussion. Read more.

New Government Holds Inaugural ECNEC Meeting at Bangladesh Secretariat

In a milestone move for national infrastructure, the First ECNEC 6 Projects have officially received government approval. Presided over by Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Tarique Rahman, the first meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) since the formation of the new government took place on Monday (April 6). Breaking traditional norms, the meeting was held at the Cabinet Room of the Bangladesh Secretariat instead of the usual NEC Conference Room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

According to Jasim Uddin, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Planning, the First ECNEC 6 Projects were part of a broader agenda involving 19 proposed schemes. Due to time constraints, the committee discussed eight projects, approving six of them and keeping two under further review. The remaining projects on the agenda are scheduled for a detailed discussion in next week’s session. This strategic decision-making process marks the beginning of the new administration’s focus on structured expenditure and project prioritization.

Structural Shifts and Strategic Committee Formation

The First ECNEC 6 Projects approval comes shortly after the formation of the new ECNEC committee on February 24, with Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir serving as the alternate chairperson. While the Planning Commission premises had been extensively renovated and decorated for the occasion, the sudden venue shift to the Secretariat was reportedly made to facilitate the Prime Minister’s current busy schedule and centralized operations. This meeting is seen as a crucial step in reviewing national costs and steering development projects under the new leadership.

Observers believe the First ECNEC 6 Projects signify a fresh start in the country’s economic management, emphasizing efficiency and rapid implementation. As the government gears up for more approvals next week, the focus remains on high-impact infrastructure and public welfare schemes.
