BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul on BNP reforms clarified that the party is fully committed to the nation’s structural changes. Speaking at a discussion program marking ‘Teliapara Day’ in Habiganj on Saturday, he dismissed rumors that the party is avoiding reforms as “completely false and misleading.”
According to the Minister, the history of Mirza Fakhrul on BNP reforms dates back to the initiatives of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, who introduced multi-party democracy. He also noted that Begum Khaleda Zia transitioned the country to a parliamentary system, proving the party’s long-standing reformist agenda.
The Historical Significance of Teliapara in Liberation War
Reflecting on the 1971 struggle, the Minister highlighted the meeting of sector commanders at Teliapara tea garden. Under the leadership of General M.A.G. Osmani and the initiative of Ziaur Rahman, the strategic planning for the 11 sectors was finalized here. He asserted that the war was a collective effort, inspired by Ziaur Rahman’s historic declaration.
The Minister also addressed the 2024 mass uprising, stating that the BNP fully embraces the spirit of the July struggle. He emphasized that Mirza Fakhrul on BNP reforms stands for the welfare of all citizens, including the neglected tea garden workers of Habiganj. He urged local representatives to take immediate action for their development.
Party Discipline and Future Vision
On party integrity, Mirza Fakhrul quoted Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, stating that there is no place for “bad elements” within the party. He reaffirmed that the BNP aims to build a transparent and accountable administration. Several high-profile leaders, including Ahmed Azam Khan and Ishraque Hossain, were present at the event.
