A tragic road accident on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway has claimed the lives of five people, including four members of the same family. The accident occurred on Thursday evening (March 26) in front of the Miami Hotel in the Kalakachua area of Burichang Upazila, Comilla. A speeding ‘Starline Paribahan’ bus rammed into a private car, leaving it completely mangled. The victims were identified as relatives of Maulana Faisal Ahmad, Central Organizing Secretary of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish.
Tragic End to a Family Journey
The deceased include Mufti Abdul Momin (50), his wife Jharna Begum (40), their daughter Labiba (18), and son Saif (7). The driver of the private car, Jamal Hossain (52), also died in the crash. According to the highway police, the family was heading towards Dhaka from Noakhali and had just stopped at Miami Hotel for a break. As they were re-entering the highway, the Chattogram-bound bus hit their vehicle from behind with immense force.
Survivors and Legal Action
One child from the family, 12-year-old Abrar, miraculously survived the crash but remains in critical condition at Comilla Medical College Hospital. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mainamati Highway Police Station, Abdul Momin, confirmed that the bus has been seized, though the driver and helper managed to flee the scene. Political leaders and locals have expressed deep condolences over the tragic loss of the family on Independence Day.
